Horses for Sale

We have a lot of pride in the horses we offer for sale. The work we do here helps our horses understand their jobs, becoming willing partners for avid equestrians. Our goal is to find a perfect match for every horse, so that they may have a forever home with a knowledgable and responsible person.

We do our best to honestly promote each horse in our efforts to place them with someone who can appreciate their unique abilities.

It takes several weeks for horses to get acclimated to their new conditions, and during this time, it is important for the new owners to learn how best to handle any situations that may arise, and consider getting qualified help when necessary.

We offer support for buyers as they get to know their new horses, because we truly care about our horses' long term success.  I make every effort to offer support to new owners both before and after purchase.

Raku ~2012 15hh Appendix type mare

$5000 Adoption Fee through Horse ReCourse

Raku is an engaging, friendly and curious horse looking for the right partner. She loves attention, and gets along well with people and other horses. She has nice gaits and is a responsive and forward moving horse.

Raku is athletic and quick, and shows an aptitude for performance disciplines. She enjoys getting out on trails. With her sensitivity and athleticism, she will succeed with an equally sensitive, tactful rider.

Raku is starting her training under saddle, and will need a confident, competent rider to bring her along. She can be reactive, and needs help building trust in the rider. She has been ridden at all 3 gaits both in the arena and on the trail. She is brave in her environment, and has excellent ground manners. She is easy to catch, lead, tie, longe, groom, etc., and gets along well with other horses.

Raku enjoys trails, and has the stamina and interest to do long distance and technical terrain. She shows an aptitude for work over fences, and could be a nice eventing prospect, or a good horse for a rider that enjoys Search and Rescue, or other long distance riding.

She has been trained using classical horsemanship techniques, natural horsemanship, and both positive and negative reinforcement. Raku is currently in training with Erin King of All The King's Horses in Calistoga.

She is healthy and up to date on dental work and vaccines. She is wearing four shoes.

Raku and her baby suffered neglect, and have been carefully rehabilitated with Robyn McCallister at Horse ReCourse. Her adoption fee will help us support more horses like her.

Wilson 2014 15h draft cross gelding $4000

Unique, stout, versatile horse looking for the right partner. Wilson is a nice trail horse with expressive gaits and potential for more. He could be a fun horse for a skilled amateur with dressage or cowboy/western dressage ambitions. This guy is easy to be around, plays well with others, and is ready for his next chapter. He's a fun sized draft cross, with power under the pedal, and sensitivity for a rider with some feel. Not a pokey, dull draft, he walks out and can be very responsive. He can also be reactive to surprising stimulus, although he is not disobedient. He needs a supportive, confident Rider to help him mature. UTD on all care, wears 4 shoes (but needs support with hind shoeing), loads and hauls well, easy to handle. Motivated owner looking for the right home for this special horse.

Starbuck 2008 16.2hh Belgian draft x Welsh pony gelding SOLD!

CONGRATULATIONS, Belle!

We look forward to hearing about your adventures together!

Starbuck is a very special horse. He has been well-loved all of his life, and he expects to be part of the family. He is a lot like a 1600 pound golden retriever. Starbuck is engaging, friendly, and gentle, he loves attention, and wants to please people.

This is a powerful, athletic horse with a lot to offer the right rider. With his charisma and quality of movement, Starbuck could excel at dressage or cowboy dressage with further consistent training. He is already an excellent trail horse, with a huge, ground-covering walk, and courageous outlook. He has even enjoyed overnight camping. He could also be a potential vaulting horse, with proper training. He has a great canter, and longes well, on voice command.

Starbuck has had quality training under saddle. He was started late, correctly, and slowly, so he has “low miles” and ought to last a good, long time. He will need more schooling and exposure to be competitive in the arena, but he is well on his way. He has a good basic understanding of lateral movements, and is developing quality transitions. He can be connected and nicely on the aids with support from his rider. He is also happy to go along on a loose rein. He has good manners and stands quietly to be mounted and dismounted, is well balanced, and has nice self carriage. He lunges well off voice commands, both in hand, and free in the round corral. He loves trail riding, and has seem some steep country, wildlife, livestock, etc. This big guy will take you absolutely anywhere.

He is well behaved for handling on the ground, bathing, vet, farrier, etc., and he loves attention. He wears a full set of shoes (size 5!) and is a gentleman for the procedure. He has been hauled to clinics and trail rides without issue. He is up to date on all vet care, including dentistry. Starbuck has aways lived on pasture, and is an easy keeper. He eats only grass hay with a daily mineral supplement (that I give all of my horses), but requires nothing special.

This guy is an athletic, balanced, forward moving horse. He has smooth, pretty gaits, and is remarkably handy for his size. He is a powerful horse with a lot “under the pedal” for a more ambitious rider. He is naturally forward-moving, and can be very sensitive and light to correct, tactful aids. He can also be intimidating, due to his size, (like any draft horse), so he requires an educated, confident handler with clear boundaries, although he has certainly been taught how to behave properly. He is smart, like a pony, and learns quickly—whether you want him to, or not. ;). An amateur with a quality trainer would be fine with this horse, he has an excellent temperament and is not easily offended. He has a lot to offer a skilled rider, but he’s also content to be a fun trail horse for someone with less ambitious goals. Anyone looking to improve their horsemanship could learn a lot with this horse. He is probably not the right horse for someone just starting their horsemanship journey, as he is sensitive and responsive, and could be confused by sloppy riding.

The right home is a priority for Starbuck. If you feel that you are a good match, please connect with me to discuss terms. We are in no great rush to part with Starbuck, we just want what is best for him. The ideal home will have a good understanding of proper horse welfare, health, behavior, and training, regular turnout, and a good farrier and vet references.
